I am up to 4 rows. I had stopped making 4 patches (SICK of making units!), so I had to stop making blocks to go back and finish up. I keep seeing orange and green in my sleep! HA! here is a picture of the design wall. I am waiting to put the blocks together until I have all of them completed. I just stash dived for more variety on the 4 patches. I want to be able to mix them all up before making a top.
Oh! spending 4 days at the AQS quilt show here in Phoenix didn't help my progress! My feet are still complaning... I do know there is one block missing. It was on the ironing board and I was too lazy to take another picture! |
Isn't it great when those circles start to emerge? I too saw the green, orange and blue in my sleep but considering the greyness of winter not a really bad thing. Great progress!
I made two pinwheels today/nite, and made them backwards!!! gosh darn. I PP them. they were the right size, and I sewed two complete 9.5 squares together. to see how it would look. ooookay for starters. but need improving.
SewNsew: I made every single one of my pinwheels backwards. You know what, I went with it. Didn't effect the pattern, thank goodness.
I don't think it makes any difference which way you do the pinwheels as long as they're all the same. It'll still look great.
Nellie, Sorry that you have been so very sick. Eight days in the hospital is a long time. Glad that you are home. You will recuperate must faster at home. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Blue Bell
hi blue bell , thank you it is nice to be home again
I had some pinwheels going both directions and once it's in the quilt, it's not noticeable at all. Glad that you're feeling, Nellie.

thank you Emma. my nurse gave the good head on sewing just for a few mins per hour, I,am so happy to be home ,the hospital staff were so kind and helpful and understanding god bless them ,I only problem I had was my room mate en older lady who had her family right there all the time day and nite , I felt so uncomfortable with her family in the room I,m talking about 8 0r more persons with this lady some where her sons, which is why I felt uncomfortable each time I needed to use the rest room ,and another bad thing was the food oh man that was awful good for a person who wants to lose weight ,I,m so happy to be home and watching everyones beautiful quilt tops keep up the good work ladys and gents
Emma, that is funny. and what is funnier, Is that you admitted it!!!! (I don't always admit my mistakes) in a quilt.I gift them knowing full well, that they aren't perfect, and never point out the mistakes. except once, with a grandson who got really up set because he had done a long and tedious math assignment completely wrong, and so had to spend two hrs redoing it. so, I took a PP star quilt off his bed, and showed him where I had to rip out and redo, and, piece, because I had cut lots of pieces too small.
SewNSo: What a marvelous lesson. Young ones need to know that the first time doesn't always work, but its important to keep trying. You can imagine, when I realized the pinwheels were all done and ALL going the wrong way I had several moments of dark thoughts. Remember at that stage I didn't know if it would make a difference to the pattern. Imagine my relief when I found out it was okay and oh by the way I was making the king size.

I'm getting a late start but finally got step 1 done tonight! I've done several of Bonnie' s holiday mysteries and it seemed really weird not to be sewing along. I was out of town for 3 weeks over Christmas because my daughter and husband had a baby boy - our first grandchild! I did have fabric pulled however, and for the first time used my colors instead of Bonnie' s. I'm using mostly darker/ civil war type colors instead of brights and am substituting cheddar for yellow and red orange for the oranges. This one will be all from stash except for four quarter yard strips of cheddar I bought for more variety.
All of the photos have been lovely. Anybody else just getting started? |
hello everyone, feeling better but not out of the woods yet, I,m seening a lung specialist and this doctor has me on oxygen with nurse,s coming by to take my sign,s of blood presser, check on my heart and walking with me to see how much oxygen I lose when I start walking just to get around ,my nurse,s are so in love with my quilts, now there telling me what hobby there going to start collecting there supplies , I maded 3 nurse,s into , it sure is good to be home and one nurse said I can start sewing but only slowly and rest in between, that,s ok by me as long as I csn sew, I,ve been seeing how nice some are coming out very beautiful. keep on sewing
sewplease, congratulations on the grandson. A great reason to miss the mystery quilt!! I have all my steps done but haven't been able to put it together. Hope to have time soon.
Nellie, sorry you've had so much trouble. Quilting will be good! Continue recovering. |
Sewplease: I can hardly wait to see what your colors look like. I went with Bonnie's, but all the more reason why other choices are so interesting. Congrats on the little one. Its such a joy to have young ones in the family. I'm still waiting impatiently for mine to appear. Nellie: Sorry to hear your still under the weather, just take it very slow. No sense in rushing. At least your in a place where the sun is shining, which I always feel helps the healing.

Nellie,
Thinking of you and wishing you well. Sending lots of love and big hugs. Blue Bell |
well I got as far as pulling fabrics and then got bogged down with UFOs ,I have so many and my dd said to me via the phone(she lives in Fl. ) Mom PLEASE finish what you have started,as I am 81 it made sense lol. so ufos it was,now have 9 yes 9 quilts awaiting bindings, but many more to come I hope!!!!lol
Jolo: Last year I finished enough UFO's to give each of my children a couple of quilts. That kind of takes the pressure off a little since I really want to leave some FINISHED quilts behind. Still want to finish more but I'm having so much fun with quilt a longs that the number of WIP's is increasing at an alarming rate. Still hope to achieve some finishes before the year is out. I don't know if you are aware of the thread, I think its called 2014 UFO or something close, its for the purpose of encouraging each other to finish our UFO's.
Sewplease:Looking forward to seeing it done in your colors, I love the civil war fabrics.
all the quilts are looking GREAT, thank you for sharing the progress.
Jolo and EmmaS: We're supposed to finish all our UFOs before our demise? Between knitting and quilting I'm in real trouble!
Rfun: No, its clear you'll just have to live forever. Same with me for using up my stash.

I'm sewing away. making different clues. I'm PP. I do what ever I feel like. the last time I sat down, and worked I worked on chevrons. I've put 3 or 4 complete blocks together to see, if the seams were matching up, and they were, and the size was good. 9.5 trimmed. correct? I like the way some of you are working on your rows. did you make all your clues first? I lost my two sewn together blocks, that had the backwards pinwheels in them. don't know where I put them, to make sure I could find them next time. ha. This time i hung my completed blocks right on the design board. I had put it up for a while, to sash my FWQ. and got it back from the quilters. going to do the binding tomorrow. I think.

I have been working on my first one (I am making 2 of the smaller size CS) this week and so far have all the blocks sewn together and the first 3 rows pieced together man what a booger it has been so far it is far from perfect but once quilted and washed no one will be the wiser. Had put them both aside after I finished clue 5 on both and just started working on them this week again. They are beautiful just a lot of pieces and had to take a break to do something else :)

Just put my last row on the center tonight. Now to work on borders!
Looks good Beth !!!!! I got my center put together today as well. I got the 1st 2 borders and 2 of the sides of the 3rd border will finish up tomorrow and see if I can post a picture.
Looks good, Soccortxi
Beth/Christine: Major Milestone! Are you going to do her border or something else? I used her border but abutted the blocks to make diamonds rather than the directional arrows.

I think I just had a great idea! I learned how to import pictures into EQ7 in a class a couple weeks ago. I can import the pictures and audition borders w/o having to move stuff around on the design wall...OR stash dive! I think my cup of coffee is working! Ha! |

soccertxi - I ended up doing her borders as I could not think what else to do with those triangles I had made. But I did end up making the 3rd border 3" finished as I did not want a thin border like she had made plus by making it 3 1/2" unfinished I used up a piece of fabric that has been aging for many years in my stash :o
Okay her is my 1st CS completed top. I a little story how the colors ended up as they are I made the triangles wrong the red should have been in the middle and blue on the outer edges so that ended up changing the design by switching the color order I had originally planned on doing. Supposed to be Ended up being Red Blue Yellow Yellow Green Green Blue Red One down one more to go ! |
