I'm switching out the orange for pink/raspberry and the green for purples. I just liked the overall look when I put the colors together.

Thinking I'm ready....but probably should do some starching and ironing.

Belfrybat 11-19-2013 12:21 PM

I heard back from Patrice about moving this thread and she said BOM section was only for ones done on this board. Ones from other boards that we are following belong in the Links section.
As soon as I finish the Iron Quilter challenge, I'm going to get serious about finding the fabrics I need for this one. I have 5 - 7 of each, and might just settle for that. Then again, maybe not....

I am thinking about joining. I have not done a Bonnie Hunter mystery before. Did my first mystery quilt last new years day. There are quite a few in my guild that are avid Bonnie fans and will be doing this mystery. I guess I am going to get out my color wheel and see if I have some combination of colors from my stash. I know I don't have enough orange or yellow.

I think that's a shame. Who's going to think to look here for a BOM?

JeanieG 11-20-2013 04:52 PM

We can just continue on with this thread! I think that is what we did for last years Mystery! Hey, we are going to have fun! I can hardly wait!

Nilla 11-23-2013 02:23 PM

What time will the clue/instructions be posted? Does she usually do the same time every year? I have to go out Black Friday shopping with my girls, but I don't want to miss the big reveal of the clue!

Last year and the year before Bonnie's mystery was in the BOM section, but Patrice has said no to that. So.... Are we staying here or going with the new thread started by KalamaQuilts in the Main section? http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...e-t234423.html
I really think it will be confusing have two different threads.

Tweety2911 11-23-2013 07:00 PM

I have my fabrics pulled and anxiously awaiting step 1. So happy to see a number of you are going to participate!! Love everyone's selection of fabrics!

fatquarters 11-25-2013 07:50 AM

I'm in. It doesn't matter where the thread is, we should be able to find it. let the game begin!

quilt addict 11-25-2013 03:42 PM

I find it very hard to locate things in the main section. But when I find it I will figure out how to save it so I can find it again. Would just like to have one page to go to.

grannyrae 11-25-2013 06:37 PM

quilt addict if you click on thread tools , top right. then click subscribe. This will allow you to bookmark and you can then find this thread in your settings each day. Hope this makes sense.

Nilla 11-26-2013 02:57 AM

grannyrae, I'm so not techy. I didn't know there was such a thing as subscribing to a thread and there have been times when I couldn't find a thread I wanted to follow. Thanks for the easy directions. Now I'm subscribed!

I can't wait to make this quilt!!!

sewmany 11-26-2013 06:55 PM

I got a lot of the fAbric picked out. Needing search for more green. Thank you ladies for posting pictures. It helps me to see what i need, may have and want.
This is my forth bonnie mystery. Orca, beatiful quilt, the easy street, the lazy sunday. Now celtic.
Got this thread subscribed and saved.

RainydayQuilter 11-27-2013 05:56 PM

I'm going to join y'all in the mystery fun. Hopefully commenting on here will help me keep on track and get it finished this winter. I did easy street last year, just need to finish the binding. I'm going to be brave and choose my own colors this year, hopefully I'll be happy with my choices. I'm using brown, blue, purple and pink. With one tone on tone beige for the background.

caroloto 11-28-2013 05:39 PM

I'm can't wait till tomorrow!!! So excited am I...

Let the fun begin!

KalamaQuilts 11-28-2013 07:26 PM

I've even dressed the girls for the party
http://quiltvillemysterykalamaquilts.blogspot.com/
click on the machine pictures to see them better...
Can't believe I didn't think of this before ;) I love bling.

The only thing I have left to do is a new blade in my rotary cutter.

Nice!!! I love that you like me use the vintage machines!!! I'll be using my White Rotary 77 and or my Featherweight.

frustratedquilter40 11-28-2013 10:04 PM

Love your machines KalamaQuilts!!! I had my fabric picked out for over 3 weeks then a friend from my Quild said you still interested in doing it in Civil War fabrics I said maybe. She said come over I got enough Civil War prints pick out what you want and bring back what you don' t use. So now I have 2 different sets. Depending on what the 1st clue looks like will determine if I do one or 2, either way doing the smaller size.:p

Less than 1 hour until the first clue! I've been so ready for this. I pulled fabrics within hours of the notice of a new mystery. Can't wait. Who needs Black Friday???

Nilla 11-29-2013 05:28 AM

So, my first question with this clue..... She mentioned that the tri rec backgrounds should be orange and neutral, but didn't say what color the outside parts should be. She shows blue, but are they all supposed to be blue or should they be a variety of colors or some other color? Maybe it's obvious to someone, but not to me and I don't want to mess up the very first step!
Thanks for your help and your patience~!

Right under the pictures of the tri Rex before the videos, she does say we need 188 pairs from the blue.

How do I miss these things that are clearly obvious to other people? Thank you!

I've been dithering whether to use blue or brown, but decided on the blue. I'll probably drop the light blue from the mix. I'm also considering going with only one neutral, but would love some input on that. In the meantime I have a bunch of orange/red and blue to cut.

one neutral would tone down the scrappy affect. It's personal preference. I'm personally combing through my stash for anything that is wide enough and using it. Slows things down a little but it does use up the scraps.
FYI...I found that Marti Michell's templates 16&17 in set C make the correct size block if you don't have the tri Rex yet.

BellaBoo 11-29-2013 09:16 AM

I follow with Bonnie's group Quiltville on Yahoo groups. That's where Bonnie posts too. There are almost 4000 members. The pictures of the quilts in progress during the mysteries are amazing.

Belfrybat 11-29-2013 11:23 AM

I haven't been able to find the FAcebook group. I did find a "Quiltville" but didn't see anyone posting about Celtic Solstice. https://www.facebook.com/#!/QuiltvilleFriends. If there is a different link, I'd appreciate knowing about it.

BellaBoo 11-29-2013 12:06 PM

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Quiltville/join If this link doesn't work the purple Yahoo icon on Bonnie's blog page will take you to the sign up page.

JeanieG 11-29-2013 12:24 PM

I'm using one neutral this year Bellfry! I did that on Orca Bay (year before last mystery) and it turned out great!

Caroline S 11-30-2013 08:23 AM

Are we going to have another thread here for our Celtic Solstice progress. I did sign up on Yahoo but I am not much of a fan of Yahoo.

Apparently this is the thread. Although someone also started one in the "Main" section. But this one seems to be getting more traffic.
Patrice did not want this in the BOM section as they have been in past years.

Clue # 1 completed and trimmed (doing the smaller size) Made a mistake when cutting- BH's orange was supposed to be my red. Ended up cutting the wrong color so swapped up the colors again and BH's orange is my blue and changed the out side color to red. ;)

jclinganrey 11-30-2013 10:35 AM

I got mine started yesterday too. I'm using red/yellow/blue/green combo. Had a little trouble w/ a few of my 1/4" seam allowances @ the top and will be doing some frog stitching today.

I'm going for a 'half of a small' version this year. We'll see - - - -

JeanieG 11-30-2013 01:21 PM

I have all my orange and neutral (white on white) cut, and started on my blue. I will be getting a late start, as we are traveling to Phoenix to visit grandkids. I always have my little Brother in my motorhome, so I will be sewing from there for the week we are visiting.

Frustrated - those blocks are looking good, I like the colors!

Belfrybat 11-30-2013 02:43 PM

Wow, Frustrated -- you are fast! I've been cutting on and off all day and finally have mine cut. I'll piece tonight and during the week and hope I'll be finished by Friday!
I decided to stay with one neutral. Most of mine were tone on tone anyway, so they'd look similar.

Thought about this Mystery since I found Bonnie's first reference to it in Oct. I did her Orca a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the process. Those darn paint chips just kept appearing in my minds eye. Well Wed. I thought, What the heck I'll just pull some fabric from my stash and see how I do. Well here is the result, with no additional purchase necessary. I probably have more in my stash and some maybe will be discarded but I think I have what is required.

JeanieG 11-30-2013 04:37 PM

Emma, those look great, and you can't beat getting them all from your stash either! I just finished quilting Orca Bay a couple of weeks ago, just have not had the time to put the binding on. I seem to get Bonnie's quilts finished within a month of the finish, but they stack up to be quilted!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 11-30-2013 04:59 PM

Clue #1 finished.
