I am working on step 5 but I wanted to see how my colors would work. I intended to piece the Birthday Girl block as Bonnie showed it, but put it together this way which must have been the last way I had it on my design wall. It is only one block of 25 so I can change it. I hate to reverse course though! I am going to finish step 5 and then decided.

I guess Bonnie really knows how to stretch a quilter's skills anyway!

Nilla, I did not want to purchase the Tri-rec ruler so I designed a paper piecing patten for the Tri-rec squares. That's what is taking me so long to finish them. Sixteen more to go and I will be done with clue one. There is a lot of waste using the PP method. But I am making Celtic Solstice crumb blocks when I need a break. Don't beat yourself up about losing points or corners not coming together, on Bonnie's blog she shows a pic of one of her non-matching corners.

Caroline: Love your crumb blocks. Keep thinking about something like that to eat up my many and varied scraps.

The first time I used the Tri Recs, I had a lot of lopped of points and others that were floating. :( This time around I am much better. In fact, I had greater success with everything measuring the way it should and being where it needed to be with the Tri Recs than I did with the first few that were done with the Accuquilt Go! Go figure...

Pagzz I did that , but on purpose. I am going to do 9 like you pieced and 16 like Bonnie pieced. I will stagger them in rows with the other block as planned by Bonnie...

Oh Beth, I think that is a good idea! I can't wait to see it.

I had planned to take a picture of my design wall with my blocks in 6x7 setting, however the cat decided she didn't like them that way and about a third of them are now lying on the floor~! GRRRR!

I am trying to decide if I can get 7 more blocks out of what I have now and make it square (70"x70") before borders or keep it rectangular and just do some more borders? I will be making it for our queen sized bed with a deep mattress so I know it won't have much of a drop but since I am almost out of my sandy/brownish fabric I am not sure if I can get many more new blocks...
When I get them all back on the design wall I will take the picture unless Scrappy the cat decides she doesn't like my arrangement again LOL

Caroline and Paggs love the purple in your blocks and can't wait to see the alternating setting of the blocks in your top!

I really enjoy seeing everyone's blocks as they finish. I have most of the "units" made and starting to assemble blocks. I will have to look at the options you guys have shown for the other block. I totally agree and am having the same problem with the Tri Rec star points. I wish I had paid more attention when I was squaring them up. Seems like all of them are cut off on one end or the other and sometimes both. Oh well, I will know next time what to watch out for.
