DonnaRae I hope you will post photos of the baby quilt when you do get it done!!! :)

DonnaRae 06-03-2008 10:14 AM

Hee Hee, sure will when I get it done.

PamH 06-03-2008 02:38 PM

Well I'm still working on Step 5, I have 14 of the 20 blocks made

mary705 06-03-2008 02:42 PM

I'm still not done with 4.

Tricia 06-03-2008 06:13 PM

I have done several mystery quilts and I have enjoyed them all. Just make sure you get good color contrast between your Lt, Med, and Dark. If not you lose the pattern and it just looks like a piece a fabric

DonnaRae 06-03-2008 07:25 PM

No, in the beginning of the instructions Bonnie explains that it is not about value, it is color. We have to make sure our colors contrast but match also. You should go take a look at the mystery. The web addy is at the beginning of this. She explains it all. :D A lot of us are behind so why not join in. We have fun!

mary705 06-04-2008 12:38 AM

Welcome Tricia, I see you just joined the 1st of the month.

mary705 06-04-2008 11:28 AM

OH NO, the last step is posted. Almost done with step 4, did get some of 5 started.

mary705 06-04-2008 01:41 PM

FINALLY finished step 4.

PamH 06-04-2008 06:07 PM

Ok Mary you made me have to look.  Oh that is going to be a really sharp looking quilt when we get done.

And yes i had to lay my blocks out to see how they will look. And I'm gonna love it when I done.. I do love the very scrappy happy look it has!!!!!

DonnaRae 06-04-2008 06:45 PM

Okay everyone, I have not looked yet. And I am not going to untill I get to that point. So probably won't be checking in here. Already pics from step five were posted and I almost saw those. Well next time I am going to stay caught up on all. I really did not expect step six so soon! Much later all!!!! :D

Don't look Donna, although mine won't tell you much about the next step anyway  . You're got a stronger will power than I've got, all the best with it and I hope we'll see you back real soon :P Here is my pic of Step 5 I had to make them a bit different, because of my colour choices, but I still managed to work in the split 4 patches, so was quite pleased I didn't waste them.

PamH 06-05-2008 02:47 AM

Oh Shelly I do like your version of step 5

mary705 06-05-2008 03:54 AM

Very nice Shelly

Quilting Aggi 06-05-2008 04:25 AM

I'm getting ready to start Step 5. I will print off the step today, but won't get a chance to get started on it until Sunday or Monday night. I have to work on Trevor's birthday quilt this weekend. His birthday is in August and I have alot of work ahead of me on this quilt!!!

Shelly I love your blocks!!! they look fantastic!

Chele 06-05-2008 04:55 AM

I'm liking those ShellyQ!

Sew N' Snow 06-05-2008 03:14 PM

I peeked and without a bit of guilty feelings...It so awesome!!!!It makes me all the more motivated to finish up Step 5 so I can begin putting it all together....I am so glad that I decided to make this quilt...Very intriguing..

Here is my quilt top It's one row narrower as I wanted it for a single Bed. I couldn't get it all in the picture, not enough space, but it has a plain black border all the way around it. No fancy borders, if the quilts get too big I find it hard to get them basted, I am liking that idea I got on here for using rails to make a simple frame. I could get it set up in the carport in Summer (we get weeks without rain in the summer) and get a whole lot basted and have them ready for quilting at other times.
oh yes almost forgot, I called it taming the scraps, although I'm really not too sure just how under control they are

Very, very awesome Shelly. Looks really great. The black really makes your colors POP.

PamH 06-07-2008 04:00 AM

Oh Shelly, I reallllly love how yours turn out!!!! You did good girlfriend :!:

joannl 06-07-2008 12:15 PM

Shelly, that's beautiful!
Jo

mary705 06-08-2008 03:23 PM

Have all my pieces done, now I just need to lay them out and sew them together. Have a couple other things I want to work on too though, so this may get put on hold for a little bit.

I still have to make the side triangles and corner pieces for mine. And now that I have seen Shelly's I don't feel like mine is too colorful! I will have to read back and see how Shelly changed hers. It looks really great, ShellyQ!!!

Here is a picture of my layout so far. I made a king size, so doubled everything, and I alternated some of the Album blocks in a swirly aqua instead of all orange. I also alternated the star blocks - some are in a dark royal blue with spots, some are in a very lime/electric green.

Chele 06-09-2008 05:44 AM

ShellyQ, it sparkles! I absolutely love it!

quiltmaker101 06-09-2008 06:13 AM

Quilting Aggi said, "For the spinning star block in Step #4 I decided to make it solid navy and a tone on tone white. I think it will really stand out. Once I get some made I will post a photo. I have to decide on the orange fabric in Step #5 soon."

I used white on white with navy for 1/2 my stars too! The other half are very lime green and white on white! We must have been on the same wavelength Aggi!

Sew N' Snow 06-09-2008 09:10 AM

Your quilt layout is amazing...I am so impressed that you were patient enough to double the amt. of blocks in the pattern....It seems like it is taking me forever to get all of mine done for the smaller version....And then when I read that I need to make 96 more blocks for the really neat border I am thinking I will be lucky to have it finished by the end of Summer...

ShellyQ 06-09-2008 06:16 PM

Thanks for all the nice compliments, This quilt nearly didn't make it tho, I gave myself no end of troubles using all that black in the spinning stars block

Quiltmaker: Your layout is awesome, luv that orange teal combo in the alt block, really works for me and I don't think it's too bright, I luv brights :P A quilt like that on your bed is really gonna brighten your day come winter time

I'm not going to be around much for the next little while, I'm trying to get the next block sorted before my son visits next week, I only get to see him once a year in mid winter cause he works on a dairy farm and you can't get time off during peak milking season, so they usually have their holidays in winter. But I won't have dissappeared  just a bit busy

PamH 06-10-2008 02:50 AM

Shelly,
Have a good time with your son, but we will miss ya :!:

Quilting Aggi 06-10-2008 04:25 AM

Shelly you did a fantastic job!!! I like the name you chose for your quilt too!!! Pat on the back for a job well done!!!

Quilting Aggi 06-10-2008 04:28 AM

Quiltmaker I loooove your colours!!!!! Your quilt is looking awesome!!!

I finally found the fabric I want for my Step #5. I hope to start it this week. I just picked up the fabrics this weekend for a wedding quilt and a baby quilt both that are due for this August! I also spent a good portion of the weekend working on Trevor's Van Halen Birthday lap quilt. I am also working like a mad woman on my flip flop tote bags again. I reeeally want to get back on this mystery quilt soon!! I still have a couple more quilts to start for teaching in September!!! I have sooooo much to get done this summer! I did manage to finish another Christmas gift though LOL

ahh yes the quilting brain waves were in sync that day for sure!!! I still have to post some photos of my Step #4 blocks yet... I will try and do that tonight. I am in the middle of making more of my flip flop bags to sell... hopefully later this week I'll get to start my Step#5. I found the right yellow fabric I will substitute for the orange.

imaquilter 06-10-2008 08:00 AM

Okay...I am FINALLY catching up! I have all of my steps through 4 completed. I am going to work on Step 5 today. With any luck....I will have this top done this weekend.

And my scraps look like I didn't even make a dent in them. UGH!

Quilting Aggi 06-11-2008 03:31 AM

although I am only to Step #5, I am anxious to see what her next Mystery quilt may be!!!

Quilting Aggi 06-11-2008 10:15 AM

Great minds think alike Pam!!!!

DonnaRae 06-11-2008 03:14 PM

OMG, Shelly, Wendy they are beautiful. Okay Shelly as you can tell, my will power went out the window. I had to look. I am glad I checked back here and see there are lots besides me that are not finished. I have been working on step five. I am in a hurry for the next mystery too. But for sure I am going to do it on time this time. Being this far behind made me look and it is sorta like opening the presents before xmas. You still want it but a little excitement is gone. Oh well. And where are you going Shelly? Did I miss that post. Hello, Aggi how are you doing. Hello everyone, think I will back track and see what all I missed here.

DonnaRae 06-11-2008 03:19 PM

Okay Shelly, I saw your post about not being around much. Wendy, you were smart. I did not look to see the finish size untill yesterday and I want it for my queen bed. So I am debating wether to make more blocks or just change the borders, maybe do something like the top for a border and then the black like Bonnie has and a solid after the make something border. Just thinking may be easier then back tracking and doing more blocks. I put it aside anyway because I have to get a baby quilt done. I just got all my fabric together for it. Now to start appliquing. See how much I gab after I have be awol..... hee hee.

Quilting Aggi 06-12-2008 03:15 AM

welcome back DonnaRae!!! BTW, I read your emails from yesterday that you sent me, but had a busy day yesterday and couldn't reply. I will soon I promise!!

I FINALLY managed to get my Yellow (Bonnie's Orange) fabric washed and ready for cutting last night!!!! Hopefully I'll get to cutting it soon. I had planned to get a full weekend of sewing in but things took a little turn. Trevor's uncle was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer and they just learned it spread to his liver. He is to have surgery today and see how much they can remove and see how severe the cancer is. The family is devastated. I have met Trevor's uncle several times last summer and he is a very sweet man. The family is very close and the thoughts of losing him have been hard on the family. Trevor is taking his father (his uncle's brother) out to Carbonear today to see his brother after the surgery. Trevor and I will head out that way on Saturday and stay with a cousin overnight. Trevor's uncle is only in his sixties.. way too young still. I might see about taking a bit of hand sewing with me.

Anyway, I am curious to hear if Bonnie were to start another mystery, or if there was another mystery quilt out there in cyberspace, will any of you start another one? I would be up for the challenge for sure! I have to admit that working on a mystery that others are doing too is so much more fun than doing it alone!

Cheers

DonnaRae 06-12-2008 08:29 AM

I want to do another also. I did find one that she says is really easy. She actually emailed me about something else and we got to chatting and she emailed me back about the mystery. But it has already started so I don't know. I already cut my "orange" fabric. Maybe I will work on baby quilt some then take a break and work on mystery.
Aggi, sorry to hear about Trevors Uncle. I will tell you though I had an operation years ago and they had to remove 20 percent of my liver. The doctor that did the surgery said the liver is the only organ that reproduces itself. Meaning it grows back. So maybe he will have a chance! But as we know with cancer that is always a big if.

PamH 06-12-2008 09:20 AM

Aggi, so sorry to hear about Trevors uncle. Prayers from Missouri are sent your way.
