Knot Sew 04-09-2008 10:01 AM

I finished the 4 patches........very scrappy...........not pressed yet. I am waiting to cut other till i see what it is going to be like :D :D I have this urge to match stuff

DonnaRae 04-09-2008 10:09 AM

Well I am still finishin up something I had to do, inbetween going to the dentist with an abscess and he gave me antibotics, which either the antibotics or the abscess threw me for a loop. I am so tired. I do a little then sleep, and mostly sleep. Oh well I will catch up with everyone this weekend. Hopefully she does not put up step two yet. I need time!!!!!!!! :?

PamH 04-09-2008 10:10 AM

I know what you mean Ruth on matching, it was a really hard for me not to make my 4patch colors match up. lol.

PamH 04-09-2008 10:11 AM

Feel better soon Donna

That's me too. I thought I was having a split personality yesterday. Sometimes I wanted exactly matching and other times I mixed them, so it will look pretty crazy. I am making extra in case I decide to toss some.

I am ready for Step2!!!!

QuiltingTurtle 04-09-2008 10:43 AM

I have 1/2 done. I have set aside tonight to finish them though. lol I have to sew AFTER my son goes to bed. Otherwise I get nothing done.

Mine are scrappy on the dark part. All my light patches are the same fabric though. I didnt have very much in my scrap pile that was light.

PamH 04-09-2008 11:13 AM

That's tooo funny Wendy, because I made extras too so if i want to toss I can.

2 Doods 04-09-2008 11:50 AM

All my 4 patches are ready. I have extras too-just in case. I tried to weed out the duplicates too. Went quicker than I thought. First time doing a mystery. This has me out of my comfort zone!

imaquilter 04-09-2008 12:30 PM

Count me in!!! I will start on Step 1 on Monday. Have a busy weekend 4 days coming up and must put a top together tonight in which all blocks are done.

I am going scrappy. Going to use up all those Thimbleberries fabrics I've got! :D

Quilting Aggi 04-10-2008 03:57 AM

I have all my strips sewn, and started cutting them out.. still have more cutting to do before making them into four patches.. I have my sewing group tonight, so I will continue making my four patches. Hopefully by the weekend I'll be ready for Step 2!!

Ruth, those are great! Mine look so boring now! And here I thought I was being scrappy!

DonnaRae 04-10-2008 04:21 PM

You are wrong, yours looks great too :!:

DonnaRae 04-10-2008 06:26 PM

I just noticed something while I was at the site. The yardage directions call for:

For this quilt you will need:

Approximately 1.5 yards of light (neutral) scraps cut into 2" strips.
Approximately 1.5 yards of dark scraps cut into 2" strips.
Approximately 3/4 yard of dark scraps cut into 3.5" strips.

Yet the fabric she choose is:
2 yards of Orange with a little red leaf in it.
1.5 yards of a red documentaries print with little black picotage designs
1.5 yards of vintage looking black with white doodads spaced randomly.
Assorted pieces of blue/white indigo 3/4 a yard

Even without the blue/white it is more fabric that what the directions state. I don't think the directions are right because I can not see 3 3/4 yards of fabric making a 77 by 90 quilt.

I am going to email her and ask. But be ready. Maybe she just decided to make a larger one. I will find out.

PamH 04-10-2008 06:51 PM

Chele and Ruth

I like both of your scrappy blocks. Isn't is fun to see what scrappy means to different people.
I'll have to post my blocks. Mine are mixture of both of yours.

imaquilter 04-10-2008 07:01 PM

I interpreted it to mean that you need all of that fabric. The scraps of strips to make 4 patches and the yardage.

????? Let us know what you find out..

Well she put in the directions "for this quilt you will need" and it is the lesser amount of fabric. And she choose way more then what this "quilt will need". So I am baffled. But I did email her. It is late and I am not sure where she is (time zone) so probably won't hear from her untill tomorrow I hope. I guess as long as we have enough for step one. But I am going to plan on it being more like the amounts she did for herself.

imaquilter 04-10-2008 07:34 PM

Me too. I hope she means the yardage that is more...I already dug through my stash and laid everything aside. It still didn't make a dent but, I want to use it up!

QuiltingTurtle 04-10-2008 08:22 PM

Finished sewing my 4patches, just finishing up the trimming of them. :)

Quilting Aggi 04-11-2008 03:07 AM

That is a good point!!! hmmmm... well I have all my 150 4-patches sewn. I did them all in one sitting last night. I just have to press them. I will do that tonight after supper. I will post a photo of them over the weekend. I like how mine turned out. I did scrappy.. umm well sorta.. just used different shades of yellows, blues and greens. I can't wait for the next step!

Love everyone's 4-patches so far!!!

Cheers

DonnaRae 04-11-2008 09:22 AM

Okay after haveing a few hours sleep (I am still having a tooth problem, and dentist won't do anything until infection gone, keeps me up) I reread a couple of more times. I think it means the for this quilt you will need, those amounts and then more the amounts she give for what she choose. Phew, :?

That is how I originally interpreted it too. good thing it's a scrappy

Knot Sew 04-11-2008 10:38 AM

I'm glad I'm not the only who wasn't quite sure what she meant...........so i did the 4 patch an am not cutting anything else till i see her chop some up.

ShellyQ 04-12-2008 02:20 AM

Hi folks, It's good to be in touch with y'all again. I'd love to join in too, a good mystery might be just what the doctor ordered, so to speak lol. I had a blast doing the new year mystery quilt, will get busy and make my 4 patches over the next few days. see y'all again soon :D

PamH 04-12-2008 06:24 AM

Welcome back Shelly we've missed you  Glad you are joining us in the mystery quilt.

DonnaRae 04-12-2008 10:12 AM

Hi Shelly, Well everybody I started on my fabric finaly. I cut my strips and now have to sew them. I think I cut enough. I want to do like Ruth and cut extra just in case. I will post a picture when I have them put together. I still have not figured out the four focus fabric I want to use. Oh dear how to decide. Decisions decisions, enough to make you go quilt crazy :?  :-o

Wow everyone is certainly moving along with their four-patches. I have mine done and I'm all set for the next step!!

Here are mine!! I kept with greens, blues, yellows and white tone on tones. Those are the colours that will make up my quilt!! :)

mary705 04-14-2008 03:39 AM

I like your color choices. I decided to go scrappy cause I've never done a scrappy quilt, and it was hard not to match stuff.

Quilting Aggi 04-14-2008 04:40 AM

I'm anxious for the next step.... I checked her website when I got to work this morning, but nothing new so far....

hmm perhaps that's a good thing.. I can play catch up on a few other projects lol

mary705 04-14-2008 05:05 AM

I also checked this morning. Working on my red, white and blue Scottish Cross quilt right now. Planning on going to JoAnns in the morning, thread is 50% off (I buy the more expensive threads and replenish my piecing threads at this price)

Wow! They all look great and aren't we doing well gettin them all done on time. Here's mine. I went a bit different with the colour scheme, but hey lol when did I ever follow directions exactly for anything  . I had quite a few leftovers in brights from my BOM quilt last year and thought I'd see if I could put them to good use. I thought I would use some of the jewel colours as my other fabrics and it dosen't have to be a masterpiece, enjoying the process is the main thing :P Can't wait for the next instalment
