I had been saving dryer sheets for a long time to use on a crazy quilt I wanted to make, and then was informed about their flammability, so I just kinda hung on to them but was afraid to use them. Then I started thinking well most material is flammable anyway, right? And then I had the same thought as you, if I make my crazy into a wall hanging which is probably the best idea since I really want to do a lot of embellishing.. then I don't have to worry as much about those flames, just so my whole house doesn't burn down..... I've got a box of them pressed and trady to go. I have made some scrappy quilts for pets with them.

Dryer sheets are also good stablilizer for machine embroidery if you run out of stabilizer and want to finish a project. The dealer I bought my machine from also said coffee filters are good in a pinch too. I've only used those once though, don't really like those.

I too have used them for small appliques, like hearts and such. Just sew right sides together, make small slit on dryer sheet and turn right side out. Makes very neat applique.

I use them for making shopping bags. I agree that they are a great project for a few spare minutes or when you are too tired to concentrate on the main event. I don't cut strips; I use scraps. I don't color coordinate too much either; I like the random effects.....makes it more of an art project.
