I bought a "new" sewing machine in Amarillo at the Viking Sewing Center at Joann's on May 2nd. Today I thought I'd better get it registered so I went online to do the registration. After entering all my info I was informed by Viking that it was already registered and had no warranty as warranties weren't transferrable. I was a little upset! I bought what I thought was a new machine that was a display model and was the only one they had for this particular model. It was on sale for $1699.00, reg. price $2499.00 (this model is being discontinued). I called the dealer immediately and she said "Oh, the 870, yes it was, let me call the company and get back with you." I waited until 5:00 this afternoon and called them back again, and was told that the previous regional manager had taken this machine as a trade in and they were unaware that this was not "logged in" as used. They said they will order me a new machine from the company and it would take 7-10 days. She did offer to sell me the 875 but it is $300 more. I said I wanted the 870 because that is what I thought I was buying new. Told her I didn't pay for a used machine. Has anyone else ever encountered anything like this?????????? I never dreamed that this would happen with an authorized dealer!

Well, if I am reading right, you kind of got ripped off. You thought it was new, but it was used, right? Wow, if that was the case, I'd be kind of mad too, but it sounds like they are fixing the problem...but someone was shady there!

Oh, that would burn me up too! Maybe they thought they would just take a change that you wouldn't register it. If I had spent that much money and found out it was used and already registered with no warranty I'd be on the war path!

It sounds like someone made a mistake but it seems that they are trying to make it right. I would give them the benefit of the doubt.

That is horrible. I would have a hard time trusting that dealer again.

Did you get the DISPLAY MODEL? Don't they use it?

Was it done on purpose or totally on accident -
we'll never know. Mistakes happen.

BUT

You're getting a brand new machine from the company for the same price as a Display Model.

I'd have been a little ticked but happy with the resolution.

At first I was upset for you until I read that they have ordered you a brand new machine. Which you are getting for the used price. So all in all, you got a deal. It is a good thing you found this out before something happened to the machine.

I would also be a bit upset, but it sounds like you'll end up with the new machine you thought you paid for. You're lucky they could still find you an 870 - the 875's been out for awhile now. I bought the Sapphire 830 last year - it was a display model I got for $899. I had no problem registering it. I don't understand why such a difference in the pricing of the new 875, they don't have that much additional on them to justify such a hefty pricetag. I remember when I bought mine how she said the new models would be a bit more expensive, at her store, they were about $400 more than the previous year's models.

I don't care for the staff at the Viking inside the Joann's near me. They are not very friendly, even when you buy things from them. I go out of my way to go to a different dealer who is very helpful and friendly to me.

Good luck with your new machine. I just love mine!
