The cheap vinyl by the yard is great. Much larger surface area & much
less expensive. Works very well. I tape it around the needle so it
does not catch.

I have a Slider that I purchased two years ago at the AQS in Des Moines. Then I read a tip from somewhere about the oven mats you can buy at Bed, Bath and Beyond that are for keeping spills from soiling your oven when you bake. They are made of a similar material, are about 20" x 24", work great on the extension tables and wait.....wait...... cost around $4. Yay! I haven't tried it yet, but plan to!

I've never bothered to find out because they start at $120 over here.

I bought one recently, Used it for the first time last week. Don't know what I did without it. I also use gloves with the tacky rubber. I got them at a Flea Market in FL. They grip super good and the slider makes it so Nice. My only Grip...it is easily moved by the heavyness of the quilt. I tape it down in the front at the corners. Makes it a little aggravating when I have to change the bobbin but for me it is worth it. A little on the pricey side thought but to me worth every penny.

I have one and it really does help me. I do have to tape it down with blue painters tape so that it doesn't move on me.

I see that Leah Day of Day Designs uses one & I go to her videos anytime I have FMQ questions.

She said her quilts sometimes get caught on it & pulls the corner up. I have her Machinger gloves & swear by them but haven't bothered with the Slider. I think I'm waiting to see if somebody can convince me they're useful.
