Adding more quilting
#1
Can you add more quilting after you have the binding on? I have the main quilting done, SID on a zig zag quilt. I just can't make up my mind on doing more quilting. It wouldn't be much, just a wavy line in every other row. I would be doing fmq for the first time and am afraid I will mess it up. It's ready to bind now but I was just wondering if any of you ever added more quilting.

Yes, I have done that several times. I did basic quilting that would hold it all together and then bound it to put in a show or something and then finished quilting it later. There was enough quilting that I could have left it alone but I wanted some more to it.

You ask a really good question, something I've wondered about too. I have several quilts that are really sparsely quilted, made before I had the nerve to try free motion, and before I realized that more quilting would improve the look of the piece. Some of them may have even been washed, but I'm thinking about adding more quilting. I'd love to hear from people who have done this and can say how it turned out.

I don't see why you can't add more quilting after binding, along the lines you described. What wouldn't look so good would be if you later added a lot of close quilting near the edges, because that would 'bring in' the quilt, and your binding would end up wavy.
