I learned to quilt when I was 25. I am 54 now and continue to love it although I prefer a more contemporary style. I learned through my dear, dear friend and my two Mother-in-laws all of which had different styles. Just like their cooking. One was a southern style cook with a lot of comfort food, the other Mother-in-law loved to make gourmet food that tasted rich and full bodied and my dear friend she made things hot and spicy. I learned from my own Mother how to open a can and heat up but with their imput I feel I am a very well rounded cook as well as a quilter. Maybe we should get busy and teach our younger ladies the art of sewing and creating in all areas of life. Please tell your friend we are NOT OLD we are wiser and "well rounded" (no pun intended LOL).

Ten years ago my youngest child said the same thing! I believe 'modern quilting' will bring a much younger generation into quilting. Yipee!

What does constitute "OLD WOMAN"?

I'm 58 and made my first quilt when I was 21. I don't ever remember not sewing. I made most of my own clothes for school and I made lots of things for my 6 kids as they grew up. I don't consider myself old.

I'm 44 and I've been quilting for 10 years, although I've been sewing my whole life.

Well, my 9-year-old daughter is learning how to sew/quilt right along with me - yes, she prefers blocks & rectangles with straight stitches, but I'm so glad we're sharing this hobby! How cool will it be for her when she's my age to say she's been quilting for 35+ years!!

I'm almost 30 and I quilt. And I've been sewing for years. Oh, and I'm teaching my little cousin to quilt. She's 9.

Oh, I think you are an old woman when you act like life is over. My grandma didn't stay busy as she aged and kind of wasted away despite our efforts to keep her involved. Stay busy, stay happy, stay young forever!
