Your nephew is one lucky kid to get this quilt! If you want an all over free motion quilting design, how about doing ferns like feathers? Instead of using loops in the feathers, use swirly curved leaves.

Cute quilt. I really like the black on it. For quilting I would outline the animals and maybe add some extra stitching for details on the larger ones. On the plain rectangles I would copy either the pinwheel shape or the on point square. Please show us how it turns out when you finish it.
