I like patterns too.......I don't wanna put all that work into, only to get to the end and find out I goofed something on calculating, lol. I see some of the beauties designes by the folks on here and would love to be able to do that......but just don't have it in me, lol.

I am just like you. I wouldn't know the first thing about designing my own quilt. I see patterns in magazines and on the computer that I think that I would like to make and just stick to them. I hope to one day make all the quilts that I have found and would love to make. there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to do it. Little by little, I will get them done. I also love scrappy quilts, crazy quilts and bright colored quilts. Simple is good for me, but sometimes I try a pattern that I think might be beyond my capabilities and surprise myself by just going block by block and get it done. I seem to be getting better with every quilt I make. Whatever is comfortable for you just stick to it. they will all be beautiful.

i only use patterns - i have only made one table topper, 2 wallhangings - i am not good enough to design a quilt - and i also really like kits where the fabric is in there too - i am " color matching" challenged, and "design your own" challenged!

I am glad you all wrote. I don't feel so bad any more. Now I see I'm not alone in using a pattern. But I think I need to do what Aquarius said and go beyond my capabilities. I'm not sure about Y seams yet. I've read the board enough to know they are hard and that scares the dickens out of me. Thank you everyone who responded.

I usually start with a pattern then wing it from there. I've been known to combine two different patterns to get the look I want. I'm not creative but I can usually expand on a pattern I see.

I use patterns. People are paid to develop patterns so I figure let them do the hard work. I will enjoy the finished project!

I use patterns. I try different patterns so I can learn different techniques and methods. I still feel that I am a creative person. The choice of color make patterns your own.

I use a pattern, at least for the blocks. I may improvise for the border but I mostly use patterns, too.

I use patterns only also, I may add sashing to enlager or play with the borders but to design my own pattern invloves math, right? I am math challenged. Somethimes my finished product is not quite like the original but that is a "design element!"
