Am I a Snob Because I Don't like Crumb Quilts
#81
I like all quilts, but I could never ever make a traditional quilt with all the squares exactly the same. I would be bored to tears....but I sure do like to look at them!!! But now I can finally say this, because this is the perfect post for it....I Hate Cats!!!!!!! I cannot stand to look at them live or in pictures or stuffed. I cannot stand to be around them, Thinking about them actually makes me shudder!!! But, that being said, I like the people that love them and nurture them and if that is their preference in pet, so be it!!! Wheww!!! Just had to get that off my chest!!!.
What a wonderful world that we can all be so different, yet have a commong ground to relate to....quilting!!!
By the way, I have a lot of those crumby thingies, so maybe in the not to distant future I will do a freebie. Anyone interested?

That might be why so many quilt patterns exist, so we all can find what we like. Then the patterns we don't like some one else who likes them makes them. To me, that is art of the FUN OF QUILTING. LOL

I don't think you are a snob at all. You like what you like. I do find that as time goes on my tastes do change so be careful you might have to start another thread in the future stating how much you love crumb quilts. LOL. How boring life you be if you couldn't change your likes/fashion or style.

Depends....I saw a delightful chicken block ,that had "crumb" feathers....Otherwise I have seen some "crumb" projects I couldn't figure out.
It seems to me that there is an enormous variation in the sizes of the crumbs and how they are used/applied.
If I am faced with buckets of scraps, I take them (on a day nothing else is going right) and sort them to color only. Using at least a dozen plastic bags propped open or clipped to the edges of bins with clothespins, disregard size, pop each piece in with its color companions. Like greens for instance , any almost all shades of green goes in. florals. plaids, multicolor stripes, cartoon prints. anything distinct gets its own bag.-maybe two dozen or even more bags?
I like appliques, so bags of greens are a treasure for me!
Seeing all the different fabrics is calming for me...puts me in a good mood!
IF I want to make a scrappy project, like a scrappy star quilt, I count the number of stars I want and for each star, I take nine pieces out of each color bag,( for the eight points of the star plus one.) and cut them to pattern size and throw them in a paper bag or a box and mix them all up, and sew away!
Maybe for christmas I would like all red and magenta and purple stars? maybe for easter I would like pinks and yellows and white for eggs? or bunnies feet and ears?
That is why I sort them...
and it is fun - banishes all the wonky sewing blues!
