Antique quilts -- do you collect?
#12
Here's pictures of a couple of my rescues. One is a pattern from 1937 Kansas City Star they called Dolly Madison and the other is a crazy quilt. The Dolly Madison i bought the top in an antique shop and added borders and hand quilted. The crazy quilt is blocks that I bought at an auction and set them together. I added extra embroidery on some of the blocks, added the backing and finished with satin ribbon binding.

I have seen quite a few in the antique shops here. I like looking at them but had no interest in buying them. Very pretty but I like quilts because I like creating something and learning how to make them. I do wish that my grandmother would have made a quilt I think that would have been really cool having one from her.

I have one my grandmother made and I would have definitely bought one at a garage sale or thrift shop to look at for a while, look for clues to who might have made it or when or where, what pattern was used, check lostquilts.com to see if someone might be lookng for it, then offer it for sale here or on ebay.

I have a couple of quilts and several tops I have purchased over the years. I have no intention now of quilting the tops, but who knows. I am hoping to get a quilt curio cabinet next month to put them all in so they don't have to stay hidden in drawers!!

Great job! I love the crazy quilt and have been looking for years myself for one of those to add to my collection. It's harder to find vintage quilts in good shape in the shops around here unless you have an arm and a leg to lay out for them.
