I love to hand quilt. I have a top that I cut out the pieces for about 6 months ago. Took a bag with pieces with me everywhere I went and sewed every minute I had spare. I finished the top (112x118) last Friday. Am very please with the results. I am in the process of hand sewing the back panels together (too wide to get the print I wanted for the back so 3 panels 3+yds long are the backing). I will be hand quilting the sandwich as soon as i make my new frame.

I really enjoy hand quilting--even it is only outlining on a panel or whatever. I finally finished a wallhanging that was totally done by hand. I enjoyed the whole process.

I seem to have a love affair with my sewing machine. I just love sitting down to it and piecing.

Years ago I learned to quilt that way. I handpieced a pillow top (Log Cabin). That hooked me on hand quilting. However, just getting pregnant with our last child, a few years have passed. I am just starting to want to start quilting again. Everyone I know do it mostly all on machine. So due to accuracy I piecce on the machine(Quilt class) But I still hand quilted it....loved doing that. I almost forgot that you could do the top that way too. I have only made my third quilt now, and i too feel restrained by the machine...maybe I will try it again. There is a weird satisfaction for me. I agree with you.

I do hand quilting and love it - relaxing and portable and feel good about it. I have done some machine quilting and am still learning.

I also piece by machine. However, I have hand pieced and find that my hand pieced squares match up far better than the machine pieced ones. It is all in the accuracy.
