what a wonderful fun and warm looking quilt.one you want to wrap up in. I do agree that white would be too blaring and needs a subtle middle blocks and with it being scrappy maybe various tans/beiges/warms.

This quilt feels not so much 'scrappy' to me a "country" or "homespun" or 'cabin-y'. The colors "can be" very masculine. I think tartan hit it pretty close when she made the suggestion to consider other than white for your plain squares....I believe that is what is hindering your "it's perfect" impression.

Something warmer like tan, or ecru, or a pale muddish peach, or other similar hues and values would probably fall right into favor with you. It's a great block pattern and the finished quilt will make you so proud! hope you will share what you did when you finish.

Something like these maybe: (They are less muddy and more bright than I expected, but perhaps you get the gist.)

I agree with several that the white is too glaring--I'd go with an ecru or some of the other suggestions--otherwise it looks great!

Looks good to me.
When I am pleased with a scrappy, I sew it together. They will keep someone warm.

When I make a scrappy I try to not have the same fabrics real close to each other. I see two instances where you have the same fabric going up and sideways with the same piece (top center-ish and bottom right corner) If that doesn't bother you - go for it. I also agree with the others that white is too stark. I'd go more with a tan.

Your white squares and border may be a little too bright. Try replacing them with a "tan nothing" -- that is a tan on tan or a beige on beige fabric and see if that doesn't make your wonderful quilt a little warmer and homier. The softness of a beige or tan may make your colors pop a little more.

I agree with several other members, you might consider another fabric in place of the white squares and border but I like your layout and use of scraps.
