This is how I use up my old, worn out towels. I use them for the batting.

Unless someone is bound and determined that burp will never touch them, a front and back of flannel is enough.

I use batting. I save my leftover batting for such things. This works just fine.

I make a pieced flannel crib quilt for each baby and get an extra yard of a couple of the fabrics for burp clothes. I cut the extra like fat quarters. Envelope 2 different prints together. turn them right side out and stitch close to the edge and then again about 2 inches in from the edge using a decorative stitch. They're always the hit of the baby shower.

I find a nice used towel, like at Goodwill, wash it, then cut it up. I put the toweling on one side and flannel on the other. No quilting in between, just top-stiching or zig-zag around the edges. They look great and are easy to make!

This is what I did too. Attached find a photo of ones I just finished. Got the pattern free online.
