Default baby quilt advice - block size

Is there a way to put 8 in squares onto a 12 in square for a baby quilt?

If you have an 8" square and you want to make it a 12" block you can add 2" sashing or patch work to each side and that will make it 12". Don't forget about your seam allowance. If you 8" square is actually 8 1/2 before adding anything then you will want 2 1/2" borders around it. Then the block will be 12 1/2" unfinished and 12" once sewn into the quilt.

You might get some ideas from this video -

I tried it recently - putting a small square on top of a larger square. I found it quick and easy to do. I liked the finished block but you do end up with part of the block having two layers of fabric, seams with three layers and you use more fabric.
