I have never done it and I hear it is wonderful to do. A very dear friend of our family was put in the nursing home and I made a quilt for her, but I want to back it with fleece.

I have a longarm, so I can do an all over pattern, but I'm not sure I feel that confident doing so or how much it will stretch.

So here is what I am thinking....I think I want to put batting in as she is always cold as the ac is always on. So this will make her extra warm.

If I used adhesive spray to help hold the fleece to the batting would that help so there are fewer pucker and gathers if I were long arming the quilt with a large all over pattern. I would try my best to just kinda lay it there and not try to stretch any.....Has anyone done this before and did you get the desired effects that you were looking for???

I can "birth" the quilt and leave the batting out and then do a couple of lines of top stitching across the quilt, but I wanted it a little more fancy...but also don't want to start the project over in case I make the wrong decision on it....LOL.

Any suggestions, help, pictures of both side of one you have done with and without batting would be great. I found a lot of information here on the forum and have slowly been reading thru it all and really don't see what I'm actually thinking of so maybe someone has tried that process and has pictures and can help me out......thanks!!!

I double quilt mine - I put the top onto the batting and quilt through the two layers - this is when I do any fancy quilting, then I back with the fleece, attaching that to the other two layers by stitching in the ditch - I use my walking foot, and I never seem to have any stretching problems. Bind as usual to finish off.

I don't know how it would work quilting it as I made a cotton rail fence top with fatt batt and fleece batting, but I tied mine because I used the fatt batt. I'm hoping it will be very warm but mine didn't stretch and I "birthed" mine and threw it in the wash and it turned out fine. But I like lacelady's suggestion

I did GD quilt for Christmas without batting. I'll go look for a finished pic.

I birthed it then did some quilting on my domestic machine. Sorry I did not find a picture of the back. I was a little worried about the fleece as it was my 1st time but I don't think it really stretched much at all.

I've done it many times. Some times stitch in the ditch and others have an embroidered design in each of the blocks that shows through the fleece and looks great.

Thanks all for you help, I added pictures of the quilt top and the finished product to the pictures section....enjoy and thanks again for you advice and help. It looks great and I will have it in the mail tomorrow and she will have it before her birthday!!!!

I have used fleece with no batting with cotton top and quilted on domestic machine with no problems..Actually slides good..
