Batting
I would like to know which of the battings are the lightest. Silk?Wool?Bamboo?Poly like Thermore which is very thin? I find a large bed quilt(queen)very heavy. I know that densely quilted quilts are heavier so I am wanting to make a quilt for my bed and do the minimal quilting necessary. Other than that, the only thing i can think of is using a light batt. I am not concerned about warmth as I am always too warm anyway. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if warmth is not a factor and you want it to be as thin as possible simply a layer of muslin is often used for thin-lightweight 'summer' quilts-
mountain mist batting has a very thin one- there are also very thin batts marketed for clothing/home dec- they do not have much loft. as for weight- wool is very lightweight but lofty- dream orient is pretty lightweight too=not as 'lofty' as the wool

I believe silk is the lightest in weight. Also, silk breathes so isn't suffocatingly hot. Here is a link to descriptions of different types of batting. Scroll down to read about silk:

I'm not sure about machine quilting silk. I know that it is very easy to hand quilt silk.
