Hi....I came to this board as a newbie...ish quilter and have learnt so much.... why not join us in the monthly doll quilt swop...you'll find it under the main section....round robins/swop....I love it and I get a chance to try my hand at lots of new patterns without having to buy all the fabric for a big quilt. I spend about a day doing my quilt for my partner and have tried so many new techniques...FMQ, pinwheel, D9P, applique....by doing something small you find out either you like it or not and then you can happily go on and do it as a bigger size. It is also really great receiving other peoples quilts...great inspiration.

When I teach quilting I teach 3 basics. First rail fence second nine patch and then I teach monkey wrench.

:thumbup: Try a 6x6 the add 2" slashing around each block then sew them. Like Black always make a quilt Pop... or something in your main block. pick out a color as slashing.... Good luck with it.. :thumbup:

Try the carpenters star, it's really easy. Just squares and triangles. There is a couple of websites that give the best instructions. It can be put together in quarters. One or two are on this board. :-D
One was called the 4 hour quilt instructions, and it did go together quickly, but for me (a beginner), it took longer. I did a post about it here.

My first completed quilt was a sampler and I agree with butterflies5518; it allowed me to try my hand at several new/different blocks (mine was king size). I have it on my list to do another using different patterns than I did for my first one.

Hey Mizlee, I bought a book called "first time quilt making" it has small quilts in it. I use it when I need to make something quick. Am a dabbler so I use the books I bought, the internet and the group always knows where to go! This group is like having your best friend next door.
