Bernina 440 questions

The Bernina 440 QE is being discontinued and I'm planning to buy one tomorrow at a price reduction. I have a question for anybody who owns a similar model. How do you like the embroidery module? Would I regret not getting this even though I'm not particularly interested in embroidery? She offers it on a 40% discount if included with the machine purchase. Any feet I should ask to be included in my package that isn't already included? Thanks!

I have a 440QE and really like it. I also have the embroidery attachment which is mediocre. The field is only 5x7 (sm) and large is 5x11 so you cannot really do much in the way of quilting because you need a larger field to work with. The thing I really like about the 440QE is that it has great walking foot and the Bernina stitch regulator is great for free motion quilting. Be sure to get these two attachments plus the 1/4" foot for piecing. Forget the embroidery machine as it's not worth the cost. -- koquilter

I have the 440QE, but not the embroidery module, and I absolutely love it! I bought it especially for the stitch regulator and the needle down position, and having the walking foot and 1/4" foot is almost mandatory! I've had mine for 4-1/2 years and put many miles on it - a yearly checkup is all it's ever needed. Enjoy it.

Love my 440 QE! I also did not purchase the embroidery add-on because I am not very computer savvy. If you know your way around the computer, then it might be good for you. I have heard on some of threads here that you have to have a lap top compatable for it?

Something to think about....compare the price of the embroidery module to a stand alone embroidery machine. Look at the price difference and what you'd get embroidery field size with a stand alone vs. the module etc. That will give you something to think on.

I have the 440 and the embroidery module. The BSR is great, the walking foot really good, and the embroidery module is OK. Quality of stitchout is nice but hooking the 440 up to a PC to embroider anything is kind of awkward. The less setup, the more you'd use it probably. A standalone embroidery machine (e.g. Janome 300e) is about $999, comparably priced to the module when brand-new.

I have the 440, bought used (2.5 yrs old, but not much use-checked the stitch count) for $1900 w/o the embroidery module, which I could have had for another $400. The 440s w/o embroidery were going for $3100-3300 around here recently. I hope you get a great deal! The BSR, walking foot, and #37 1/4" foot come with the machine. If you can get some extras included, consider the straight-stitch plate, #57 foot-1/4" with a sturdy metal guide to the right, #23 appliqué foot, circular sewing attachment...whatever you want/can get, as accessories ARE expensive. I really love mine, I think $2500 new would be a very good deal, anything less a great deal. Good luck!!!
