Our local Bernina dealer is alive and well ... sorry you lost yours. I cringe at seeing local business dry up.

Sounds like the Viking stores that were in joAnns around here. Almost all are gone.

My friend works at Bernina in a Hancock store here in San Antonio. She will indeed be out of a job the end of March. The Bernina dealer stores are not closing, just the ones that are concessions in other stores.

Not in my area (Atlanta, GA) My Bernina dealer is self-contained (Atlanta Sewing Center). They just moved to a new location and added a quilting studio!

I think it's just because the 'store in a store' model has not worked as well as expected...for either business...as JoAnn's/Viking learned. Seems kind of strange union anyway, discount fabrics and high-end sewing machines. Around here, the high-end machine dealers are all partnered with either an independent LQS or a vacuum cleaner dealer.

A few of our JoAnn's here still have the Viking dealer on their premises but the LQS where I bought my Bernina and another one still have Bernina's for sale. I think it must be just your local store doing away with the in-store shop.

Bernina is still being sold here in The Sewing Room in Beaverton, OR. They haven't said anything about Berninas no longer being available.
