O yes I've done that before, wasn't fun at all
That's why I now use two plastic saw horses
and put my large ply board on them and then
I pin everything down with safety pins so much easier :D

If you like to pinbaste, either on the floor or a table it is very helpful to slip a large marble (or a big gumball) between the quilt and the carpet or table. Just slide it along to where you want the next pin to go and it raises the whole quilt enough that you don't need to worry about pinning into the rug or scratching your table. Works great!

Thanks for giving us all a good laugh and a chance to know we aren't the only ones who do things like that! :-)

Have you seen the video about spray basting a quilt on the wall? Haven't tried it yet, but I will.

Basically cover the wall around the quilt with clean paper to protect the wall from the basting spray, pin the quilt back to the wall, then the batting, then the top. Gravity allows the layers to hang without wrinkles once smoothed.

Don't remeber whose video it was but found lots of entries when I googled it. Including someone who pin bastes against and old mattress leaned against the wall.

Bottom line, our old knees, backs, hips, etc don't have to get on (or off!) the floor :-)

OMG don't feel bad, I did the same thing to my bed. I thought I was holding it up enough but I guess not.
    Happy stitching!

I've gotten down on the floor to baste but getting UP was MY problem. After buying a new dishwasher my hubby gave me the folded cardboard "cushions" that were in the box. I unfold them and place them on my bed. then I pin the backing down and layer my quilts. You could also buy the cardboard cutting boards from Joann's fabrics (had one many years ago when I made clothing)and that would be the same thing. Works like a charm and no kneeling! They are pretty inexpensive also.

I think it is pretty funny that you mentioned pin basting your quilt and then said you had to 'cut it off the floor'. Soooo am I right in thinking that you cut your carpet before you would re-baste? LOL, I am with you, after that long on the floor, I would make just about any sacrifice to keep from having to re-do it. I am a big fan of spray basting.
