Try the raven. I've found it to be the blackest black batik around.

You can always call the folks at https://www.batiksplus.com/SuperStor...AssortmentID=1 .
They're the ones I turn to when I have questions about batiks.

I have a black batik, but was also disappointed that it reads as a solid. But I wanted a black background and the rest of the quilt was batik so I decided to get it. There is a black tone on tone (I believe its moda) that I've used before that I really liked.

I bought one, the color variation is very slight, but I love the additional texture to it :D:D:D

Yes, I have a two different black batiks. One is from Moda's fossils and ferns collection the other is from I think Benatrix called Raven. You wouldn't know it to look at it, but Raven is pretty cool and it has the feel of a batik.

Yes, I love black batik. I have a whole bolt of it. It doesn't have any blue or green or any other color in it. And one of my local quilt shops carrys it now so it is readily available when I run out.

I love having black batik in my stash...it always gives some amount of movement and goes with everything from florals to juvenile prints. I keep a bolt of Hoffman black batik and one of Kona black. It's not that I use it alot but I always keep them on hand along with a bolt of white.

I have a marbley black but would use a solid black - I love black and I love batiks (that higher thread count and the fact there is no 'right' side makes them so versatile to work with) so I'd defintely buy black batik, even a solid.

They have a color called "Raven", and it is probably the most boring selection of all, because it's... just black... and not much variation in shade at all.

And so I'm asking, do you have any black "solid" batik in your stash?
Yes, I got one as part of the fat quarters/January weight challenge. It is gorgeous. I have some black and white fabric, replica of the Amana calico that it will be just gorgeous with. Edie

Black is great to use. Most of my quilts have black in them somewhere. Most times as a very narrow border, 1" or less between the main body and the borders.
Rachel Clark made a coat out of all different shades of black . Any thing but boring. I saw it on The Quilt Show but can't find a photo of it. Even on her site.
