I used Elmers to glue braid on a sailor collar so it wouldn't move when I sewed it on. That was YEARS (45) ago. I never put two & two together and thought of using it in quilting. duh Glue basting a quilt is a lot cheaper than purchased spray basting. Thanks for whoever told us about this first.

[QUOTE=Cybrarian;6364955]I am so thankful for the amazing information, advice and teaching on this board. It happened again the other day with the thread about the Clover Craft Iron. I started reading since I had just bought one and found out you have to heat it up and let it completely cool 4-5 times before it heats properly. If I hadn't seen that I would have thought, as some posters mentioned, that something was wrong with it and probably let it sit in a drawer with the intention of returning it- but not really getting around to it. So that would have been $30 down the drain. I can't count the things I've learned here that have saved me money. Anyone else have this experience? Thought it might be helpful to newer members of the board to benefit from things we've learned from each other. Thanks for helping me save money![/QUOTE

I've found this board to be a wealth of information and support. I too was a little disappointed the very first time I tried my Clover Craft Iron, so I am going to try this and see how it works. Initially, I bought this iron for fusing 1/4" bias binding for stained glass projects, but that project is still on my "Roundtoit" list, but when I'm ready, the iron will be too.

What is equally amazing to me is how many doodads there are out there to buy that would never have known about unless someone posted about them.

I so agree with all that has been said...was no quilter and didn't like sewing that much, now I have a room dedicated to quilting and several vintage machines due to all the information I learned here. This is absolutely the "best" GO TO place for me. Thanks so much to all the awesome people who take the time to ask and to share.

I wonder if the heat and cool trick would make the small iron I bought work? I tried it once, and it never got warm enough to dent the cotton fabric much less press it. I am off to try it. Wish me luck. You may have just saved me about $15. Thank you.

I, too, think that the combined wisdom of the people on this board is absolutely amazing! Everyone is kind, not condescending, and willing to share all sorts of information. Individually, I'd never be able to find all the information available here. Thanks, everyone!

I have learned a lot from the posts here and if I need to know anything I come to the Quilt Board and do a search.

I agree about the info on the Clover craft iron...I did put it back in the drawer as a useless gadget because I used it once and it was no good. I'm going to pull mine out and get busy heating it up.
This board has also made my quilting life wonderful with the School Glue, June Taylor Shape cut rulers, and the purple gizmo that stands up and you cut apart chained pieces with it! Love the board.
