Default a book on the block?

Hi all, one of our secretary is retiring at the end of the school year, the staff wants to make a signature block quilt for her, she loves to read and collect books. The staff would like a block with a book appliqued on it where they would write their congrats. I cannot find any pattern, all I get from my research is "quilting books" no a single book pattern. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thank you

One block per writer or one big book for all? Here are line drawings of all kinds of book that you can enlarge for applique.

The only fabric I could find were old library book. It might be something you could use.

You could make some sort of a shelf furniture and maybe make the books have the signatures of people like they were the authors of a book. Good Luck.

You can use just about any block that has a center square or rectangle, but here's a few at Quilter's Cache: http://www.quilterscache.com/Alphabe...stPageS_Z.html

Sorry I missed the part about you wanting to have something to do with books.

I made a book shelf memorial Wallhanging Instead of using book titles, you could have people sign the spines of the books

There is a paper pieced pattern for these "bookshelf books". My small quilt group did a block exchange using the pattern and all the quilts turned out great. Some of us wrote the names of books on a light colored piece of fabric that was pieced into the spine. We tried to personalize it using the receivers "likes".

    Here is one free pattern:

This is the pattern we used called Book Block for the Library Shelf (it's about the 9th pattern down):

Hope you find something you like. You should have a lot of fun with this! We sure did.

thanks, I think the open book will work great if I can get enough volunteers to do the blocks.
