Default Don't Prewash Red Fabric???

I was just checking out the latest JoAnn's online flyer. In that flyer is a red fat quarter and it says not to prewash! I would be scared to death to not prewash before using in a quilt.

Your thoughts plz.

I would not be following those instructions.

I believe I would be prewashing it.

Why not prewash? Does it give any clues as to why it would say that? Maybe they're afraid it'll shrink and fray so much you'll be left with something the size of a charm square!

I like Joann's and buy lots of fabric there, but I avoid their fat quarters. It seems like they have the LOWEST quality fabric in those. Some are OK, but most of them are really see-through. If you do buy them, make sure you open them up and check the weave.

I would pre-wash anyway. States 100% cotton. I pre-wash every piece of fabric. I like to check the shrinkage. I usually put smaller pieces in a lingerie bag and I wash in hot water.

Maybe it won't be red after you wash it...Sometimes fabrics don't hold their colors well - it may be pinkish when washed. That said - I would wash it too - I am usually not a pre washer but with extreme colors I always wash them just in case.

Well, I'd want to know that before I insert it into my quilt!

I wash everything as soon as I get it home. I would wash red alone with a color catcher and I would wash it twice if the color catcher had a lot of red in it.

If they're advising not pre-washing, I'd wonder what's wrong with it and whether I want it in a quilt.
