Do all their fat quarters say not to pre-wash. Raveling would occur and then the size would not be a regular fat quarter so maybe they are trying to avoid returns or complaints from that standpoint. Not defending them just trying to figure a reason why.

I wash and dry all my fabrics when I bring them home. Red I would certainly pre wash.

I was looking at some of the other color fat quarters and it says the same thing
Maybe because they are precuts (?) they are advising not to prewash

This might be due to it shrinking when washed and ending up without enough material. I never buy FQs. I have never found them to be what they are cut out to be. One full 1/4 yd. from the bolt is cheaper than a FQ,. Pass the left over to someone or add to a scrappy quilt.
peace

I pre wash all my fabric whether it is for quilting or dressmaking etc.

The last red piece I used took 6 washes to get the water clear. Be warned.

Your thoughts plz.

Sounds like Joann's is inviting a lawsuit. I can't image ANY reason not to prewash a fabric that will sooner or later be in a washable creation.

Even more reason to prewash--------get the shrinkage over with so you can know what you have.

You can prewash without any raveling if you soak and swish and lay to dry. If I had a FQ that shrank/bleed when they warned me not to prewash, I'd be madder than a setting hen.

I'd never buy 9" of fabric at any store near here. I'd have to buy 12" to have 9" after squaring it up. Lazy cutters

Never ever trust red. It's too untrustworthy not to prewash.
