I purchased a leather thimble at my quilt shop. It is similar to this one [url]http://www.quiltknit.com/notions/thimble_1.htm Scroll down one. It is called the nimble thimble. I paid 4.75 for it and I am sort of disapointed. I decided to hand quilt a full sized quilt by hand and I had a rubber one but I forgot it so I went down the street to get a leather one, I'd heard they were really good. So, I work with it for about 2 hours and it sort of splits open. I accidently make it worse, and now I can't use it at all. My question is, did I do something wrong to make it like that? I'm left handed, and I hold the needle with my thumb and index finger. I got it because the skin was rubbing off my index finger and I put it on my index finger, it was akward but it worked, and then it started to tear a bit???
Should I take it back, or what? Thanks Emily

Ummm, yeah...I've bought several of those thimbles...I like them ok, but they don't last worth a darn. I usually can only get about half way through a quilt with it before I have to do something. Mine haven't split though... You might try to take it back...heck..all they can say is "no". It would be worth a try anyway.

i love my leather thimble but only because it is the only kind i can wear that feels natural. but it took no time at all for the needle to find its way thru the leather and into my finger. the little metal plate inside is way too small. not too much damage but a pretty good poke. i got a small piece of very soft leather and glued it to the inside of the thimble. this snugged it up so i could keep the little metal piece positioned correctly and not be poked. now it is great. i sure wish i could use one of those lovely golden thimbles but i can never get used to the metal. i think my finger is square. lol

I had a leather thimble too, but kept poking myself through the leather with my needle. So, I gave up and now I use the Thimble Pad and I LOVE it!! You can position in the exact spot you want it on your finger and you can reuse it many times before it loses its sticky (do not apply lotion to your hands before you stick it on and do not wash your hands with it on) It gets a two thumbs up rating from me
