Sharon,

Thank you for your reply.
I've never considered an appraisal but that's a good idea.
What does the term "feedback material" mean?

Thanks again!
Paul

You'd be able to determine if it was all hand sewn where the seams are coming apart. It doesn't matter so much to me, to keep in mind, quilters have been using machines as soon as there were machines to use. It is entirely possible to have a civil war era quilt entirely machine sewn and machine quilted (although rare).

Restoration work is very exacting and time consuming. The standard is that a quilt is only as old as it's most recent fabric. I'm not sure your fabrics are feedsack, I'm feeling that this is a bit more recent, after 1940s. Feedsacks and flour sacks however were and are still used today.

Repairs aren't so bad but even still, more handwork than I generally do.

I used to collect true vintage fabrics and would sometimes get called upon for repairs/restoration and I get out of it whenever possible, it isn't what I do. I accept that quilts age and change over time and use them until they are shredded and in the dog's basket.

Refer to the post Selm put on. More than likely it was feedsack material as she said.
