Keep in mind that wood no matter how well crafted will expand and contract with the humidity level and you may get some movement or shaking of your frame while you are quilting. This makes it very difficult to control the machine while doing intricate patterns. That said if you are just doing quilting for yourself and really just want to get it done fast and are not a perfectionist I would say that it sounds like a good price.
The 17 " Bailey only weighs 26#. You can choose any frame you want to for your machine and I'm sure you can get a metal Grace frame from Chuck Bailey if you so desire that. Many Bailey users are professional quilters who use their machines all day long every day and have wonderful results.

I have a Bailey, with the stitch regulator, on a Gracie frame and I love it. I have not had one second of regret about my purchase. I recommend them highly.
P.S. For the person who said they were visiting the factory this summer - you made me laugh. I went to the Bailey's store once and there is nothing resembling a factory in sight. They seemed shocked that I would just drop in - apparently not many people do that. But Mr. Bailey couldn't have been nicer and gave me plenty of time to try out the machine. Clearly, his sales tactic worked.
