I am an absolute beginner as far as machine quilting goes, but I have done it successfully with different threads, top and bottom. My 26 year old Bernina 910 has been the most wonderful quilting machine (I wish it had a larger harp). If only I could do my part as well as she does hers!!

I do it all the time. I use a friends long arm (Baileys) I do it on there and on my $200 Brother. I get a little at times but when you wash it fixes it. I mostly use connecting threads thread or coats and clark star brands. Just my experience. Now if you can't get the tension to fix it I have heard silk thread blends with the fabric but it is expensive. Happy quilting
