Has any one ever heard of one of these quilts, if so do you have a pattern? My niece is making one, but she don't have a pattern to go by, her friend is telling her......I would love to see what they look like......Thanks :)

I haven't got a picture but the idea is that you need to make channels or baffles on the back that can be filled to add the weight. I'm not positive as to what they use for the filling (styrene beads??) but the weight is supposed to provide a feeling of comfort and security. They are using a similar idea for dogs terrified of thunder - thunder shirts that are weighted to provide a calming effect. I think she'll need to see one before she attempts hers.

I made one for my Aspberger's grandson. After some trial and error, I used styrene beads for one and pea gravel for his brother's (who HAD to have a matching one) and invented an easy way to make it. I won't bother to describe it now but it takes two soft beach towels, some muslin (or leftover fabric of any quilty kind) and some easy sewing. I'll write up the directions if anybody needs them; just PM me.

I had to make a phone call to a friend that has helped a woman make a few of these. Here is a link she sent me.
