Change of plans...absolute minimums

If no top border why couldn't you line the border up with top edge of quilt? Take the border down to the bottom and miter it at the corners of the bottom border, do the same on the other side border. This is what I would do. No top boder would be under the pillows.

I like this idea with a possible addition of a strip of the inner border across the full width of the top to have a finish for the star points. I think that this is a pattern that does not need a full border under the pillows.

Still haven't figured out the border situation yet. I discovered yesterday that I need one more row of blocks to get the top to at least cover the bed. Have most of those pieces cut now - just a few more to go. Whew. Once I get that done I can measure how much of each of the 2 fabrics I have left and see what I can manage for borders.
I do like the idea of a single border at the top to finish of that edge though. Hmmm. Will have to think on that one!
