    Christmas! BERNINA 440 QE!

My mom gave me a Bernina 440 QE for Christmas!!! Maybe now it will push me to get motivated for some quilting. I only did free motion quilting one time ever on my other machine so I'm hoping the BSR will help me. Who has one and likes the BSR. I'm also intimidated by setting tensions. My Viking sets the tension automatically when I sew. I've never had to adjust it so I hope I don't have to mess with it often.

You are very fortunate and have a wonderful mother. That's the kind of gift that keeps quilting alive.

The little booklet that is in the tin that holds the bsr foot is very easy to read to set up the foot for the bsr. It is easy and fun to do. Once you start playing with it, you will look for projects to play with the foot again. Congratulations on you new "toy". Have fun with it.

Congratulations! You have a wonderful machine. I love my 440 QE and the BSR. Take advantage of any classes available from a dealer near you. There are simple Webinars at the Bernina site on the computer web too. There is a nice big instruction book that comes with the machine to get you started with the BSR.

Congrats on your new Bernina. I love mine. I have the BSR and have used it several times. It does ok, but I prefer just to drop the feed dogs and use the embroidery foot. Try them both, you may love the BSR. Have fun with your new machine.

I have the BSR and I love it, I have never had to change the tension on my machine, not even when I used the monofiliment. Congratulations!!

What a wonderful gift. Love my Bernina machines. Check out the Bernina website at berninausa.com. There is a lot of information there. There is also a Yahoo group for several of the Bernina machines.

Relax!! You will absolutely LOVE it!! I have had mine for several years and the BSR really helped me get going with FMQ. You will find that after you use it for a while you will sometimes be quilting without it.........it's a great learning tool. Like Fidgety says, don't worry about tension....I have never had tension problems. Do take some classes from your dealer if you can. That helps SO much. Have fun!!!

Congrats, you will LOVE this machine. I love mine. Don't be afraid, but try to take the classes, that is the best way to work with your machine. They'll teach you how to use your machine to the max.

Take care and Happy New Year.

I love my Bernina 440QE. I have had it for 3 years now and never plan to part with it. I have never had a bit of problem with it and I use it alot. I also used the BSR to do several quilts the first couple years I had it (until I got my long arm machine). I liked the BSR. I took a class on using the BSR. Classes should be available to you from the Dealer where your mom bought it. Bernina provides classes for the machines they sell. I highly advise thatyou take the classes. I did and they definintely helped me get into the comfort zone with my 440 when I got it. Good luck. I'm sure you will enjoy it. And--by the way--your mom was very generous in getting you that for Xmas! Make sure to thank her many times.

yay!!!! I bought one in September. I love it. I love my BSR. I love, love, love the BSR. It has 2 modes - one where you control the pedal. The other one where moving the fabric controls the stitches. Cool, cool, cool. Check out Videos here if you don't have classes.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my post about my new machine I will definitely need to take the classes. Have any of you had to fool around with the tension with regular sewing. I'm very intimidated by tensions...hehe My Viking has a sensor that automatically adjusts it. I've never had to touch the tension so I hope I won't have to fool with it for just regular sewing.

You shouldn't need to fool with it for general sewing. In the instruction book it tells you where it should be set but there is also a red line oo the tension setting knob that is factory set for most sewing. I sometimes adjust both the top tension and the little screw on the bobbin for FMQ with different thread.
