When piecing anything with white in it, white thread it is. For any other color fabrics, I use whatever shade I have handy....usually trying to use up the older, not so fashionable colors. Bobbins are the same.....I will fill 5-6 at a time for FMQ and the leftovers get used first in the next project. I know that my methods aren't to standard, but I refuse to waste thread and this is a good way to use it up and empty bobbins.

I use white when piecing with white (which I don't do very often. I'm not a huge fan of white) and I use offwhite or black depending on if it's a light or dark color.

I use Aurifil in beige, gray, black or white for piecing. So much easier than trying to match colors and they all blend in so well. My machine runs best on Aurifil, so I try not to irritate it by using other thread it might not like.

Thumbs up

I use Essential Egyptian Cotton Thread in the natural colorl. Have used it for years. Love it, reasonably priced, 1,200 yards. I usually buy 12 at a time. The colors are beautiful, but I do use the natural for piecing. Cannot complain one little bit. My Singer is happy with it also. I get mine from Connecting Threads. Edie

Thanks!
You can buy it at Amazon, for one place. Not sure if they have several colors available.

I read somewhere that in the "olden days" people used only white or black or RED thread for quilting. I use up spools of whatever I have when doing scrap quilting, especially red because I have a lot of it. This was all given to me.

My star quilt was dark blue with light colors in the stars. I should have switched to white or light when I sewed the seams that were more light than dark. Didn't think of that until it was finished, and the dark thread showed on the light parts. A smaller stitch might have helped also.

Lots of tan and gray! (what do you use for white fabric?)

I use white and cream.

Love Aurifil so much I bought these 2 colors in large cones. It's been 2 years and I've hardly put a dent in them.

I try to match the fabric I am sewing. When I quilt sometimes I like to have a contrasting thread - on some quilts I like that to show especially if I have a pretty color of thread.

I have never used Aurifil thread.. but I am going to check it out right now.

I recently starting using King Tut brand from Fabric.com... has anyone used that? I love the colors but it seems pricey (but I still spent the money on it anyway)
