Beautiful job. Shading is perfect. Check out water color books for patterns. They also have color guides. Tole Painting books another source.

The only thing I will say that is different from what was mentioned before is that I have washed my project immediately after finishing it, and heat setting the fabric medium so the project was fully dry, and the none of the color washed away. With other set methods, it may need 24 hours.
sgardner, I've also done what you described above and with the same results. The aloe vera gel seems to dry in about 6 minutes.Originally Posted by sgardner

I totally echo this! Everyone could bring their own supplies, and some fabric to practice on, and just experiment together. You don't have to wait hours for the fabric medium to dry- I've put a light fabric over it and dried it with an iron if I was in a hurry, but if you don't soak it heavy, the fabric medium will be dry on it's own in 10 minutes.Originally Posted by janeknapp

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I'm not experienced enough to be an expert giving a class. Just get some supplies, sit down together, and try it out. I'm sure your work will be gorgeous.

Here is the photo I used for the lily. I resized it and cropped it. Then I printed it in black and white. I drew black lines on the paper around the major shapes with a pen. I laid high quality muslin fabric (or have used polished sateen purchased at Dharma Trading Co.) over that design and traced lightly with a mechanical pencil. I used the Ultimate Marking Pencil for Quilters. I started coloring with the lightest shades first and added medium and dark for shading and intensity. I drew strokes of color to mimic the lines in the photo. Finally I used the small, short stiff brush to dip into the aloe vera gel and brush onto the colored fabric. I make sure all of the color has been activated by the gel. I know this has happened, because the colors become more intense.
