The family ends with me. My husband and I were each only children, and we choose to have our military careers, rather than a family. We have hosted 18 exchange students since my retirement. The last one has boomeranged and is living with us again, attending collage. Now, as a 4-H advisor, I have several thousand "children" per year. I share with them what they are willing to absorb. Their ideals and values are different, and I find a lack of imagination on their part. I write so that everyone can retreat to some corner of their past - and remember.

I sure do hope you still have your "sampler"! You should frame it if you do.

In case you are not aware, it is really reasonable to self publish a book these days. Go to Lulu.com and see what they have to offer. I wrote essays for a newspaper for a while and my kids kept saying, "Mom, put all of those stories into a book" So six years ago I surprised them with my book. One hundred pages cost me about $8 per book. I love your style and I encourage you to do this. If you want help with cover design, I'd love to help.

I sure find this to be true in many kids now days, also. Too much video/tv and not enough playing alone time. I have been putting my diaries into book form also. I use blurb.com and it is nice also. But I am sure there are many book places online and one is probably as good as another. Please do get it into a book. It will sell well, I am sure. I know I really enjoy reading about the lives of those who have gone before and wish that more of them had written down about their daily lives.

Such a beautiful moving story. I remember similar times with my grandmother, Mammy.

Ohhh, what wonderful memories of stitches with your Granny. Made me recall stitches with my Grandma. I love her so much and now she is with Jesus. Her lessons and love of sewing are ingrained in my heart and stitches.
