I hope you get it figured out; your dresden is SO unique and any mistakes don't really show. It's very pretty.

Sounds like you have it figured out. It's the folding over of the fabric that does it. I'm piecing flannel right now and had to move the needle two clicks beyond the usual setting for quilting cotton. The flannel is thick. I do the 3 piece test with each new project, just to be certain I have the correct setting to get the scant quarter inch. Fabrics vary in thickness and it does make a difference. Good luck with piecing, the block is beautiful!

Today I was remembering reading your thread, and I wondered if something I recently saw would be helpful for you. I know it clarified the importance of a scant 1/4" seam for me.

https://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2011...t-14-inch.html

Additionally, Amazon (there are also other sources) sells something called a Perfect Piecing Seam Guide. You put your needle in the hole, and then use a piece of painter's tape to create a scant 1/4" seam guide on your machine. And, of course, you can create a ridge to follow by applying a couple of layers of painter's tape.

I love what you are making. It is beautiful!

Well, I re-read this thread and it looks as though you had already found the solution to your problem. I wonder how many people don't understand the importance of a scant 1/4" seam, or even what it is? The issue you ran into is a good example of how much it can matter in some situations.

I also wanted to say that I went and looked at this class on Bluprint, and the block was challenging for some people--so much so that a couple of people just gave up. You did an outstanding job considering how many pieces there were. There was a lot to keep track up. It's awesome that you persevered in figuring out how to make your block perfect. Kudos!

Are you sewing on the line, inside the line, outside the line? I heard this discusstion related to woodworking and never thought about the line width in sewing but it could add up.
