Recently bought a spool of the new Craftsy thread to give it a try....5000 yards to the spool, and got it on sale. For a 50wt thread I found it to be so super fine....not like the Connecting Threads that I've been using. Because I wanted to use it on my Janome 1600P that is on a quilting frame I proceeded to wind bobbins. Heavens...that spool was jumping and twisting off the spindle, Made a real mess of the bobbin. Finally looked at the spool and it's much larger in diameter than the Connecting Threads or Auriful spools that I've used before which allowed for the jumping and twisting. The only fix I could think of for using it was to place an old empty Connecting Thread spool inside the Craftsy one. Problem solved. Remember this was being used on a quilting frame. Why didn't you use a thread stand? They can be purchased for $10 for a simple one to around $20 for a deluxe type from Superior Threads. I use one for almost all thread whether stacked or cross wound. It keeps the thread from twisting and feeds consistently. You should always use one with invisible thread.

Because it's on a quilting frame. Stands work fine with a stationary machine but the spool needs to move with the machine on a quilting frame.

I've used their new thread a couple times now... and I love it. It is thinner and smoother. I got a free spool with a order about a month ago. I bought 2 more spoils of different colors. I love your idea. Don't you just know someone will make something like your idea and make a fortune. lol.

quilterpurpledog....I have a thread stand for another Janome that I use when I piece...and you are right, it does work for that. But as quiltsRfun explained, the thread spool does need to move along with the machine when on a quilting frame. Still it makes me wonder why Craftsy made such a large diameter plastic spool for their thread. Thank you for your reply to my post.

Try going to a craft store and buy a small sterifoam cone and fit it to your spool and then push it overthe thread pin.

I have a plastic spool adapter I bought years ago so my large spools of C&C thread wouldn't bounce around on the spool pin. It's called a ThingaMaBob, but I couldn't find one in a google search just now. I did however, find this, which is basically the same thing.

Thanks shasta5718....but I've always found stryforam to squeak against something plastic as most machines are these days. What I'm using works for me right now...no noise and fits like a glove.

Looks like a great fix to me! When you are in the moment and need a fix, you did it!!! Pat yourself on the back. Now tell Craftsy, so they can either adapt their cones or at least warn other customers.
