I had the same thing happen once. I added prairie points (adjusted to the size to accommodate the size required which made them each about 2" long).

Here's what I did. I nested the prairie points just a little bit and basted them together to the needed length for each side. I then basted them to the lower end of the binding (on the front side). Finally, I added a strip of large rick-rack on top of the points and sewed them into place. (This was a "girly" quilt so the rick rack worked perfectly, but you could use something else.) The points were secured and the desired length was acheived. It really didn't take long and I liked the final look.

Personally, I would leave it as is. Traditionally, quilts were not bedspreads and they covered the top of the mattress. If this one comes up a bit short, so be it. Use it someplace else if it bothers, or turn it sideways.

I extended a quilt for a friend and
I just quilted a strip for 3 (could do all 4) sides and
sewed it on just like binding a quilt.

You have lots of good ideas shown above, Buckeye Rose. I would back off on the ruffles though. My thought would be to take the final binding off, ask her if she has some more of the black print and if she does, just add a sufficient piece all the way around the quilt--no one will notice the seam if she is going to be using it as an everyday quilt. Match the quilting as much as you can. (oh yeah, I forgot to mention the lining and batting, but once you get my idea, you'll see how to do that), then re-bind it and it is still beautiful. I love the quilt and colors. And someone's suggestion to turn it sideways and use it as a foot quilt (they were very popular in our fce lessons this past year), makes it still useful enough to cover with at night..... You are certainly being helpful to try ane fix this problem. BUT i it is not be your problem to fix. Unless it was your fault when you quilted the top and added ( ?) the border. . Have you discussed this with your customer and see what she wants or thinks. Also she should be the one fixing the problem if this is an issue for the customer. I personally make my quilts asbout 70x90 and lay them across a king size bed. I have a ivory colored non-quilted bedspread covering the bed so the matress does not show and the quilt drops over the sides. I think that it looks very nice.

Thanks so much for all the ideas. I am going to customers house to actually "see" how the quilt fits the bed. Turning it sideways may just work...am seriously hoping anyway. Customer already has a ruffled bedskirt, so the ruffle may work too. The quilt is intended to be a "pretty"....something to sit on the bed, look nice, and then be folded up at night while bed is in use. I messed up when I finished it and didn't get a pic, but will def get one when I go to her house so I can show you.

I would just get another dust ruffle and put it on top of the mattress, then cover it with the quilt. I really don't think I'd make any permanent additions to the quilt itself.

Duhhh, I should have looked at the rest of the responses. Can an additional border be added and done similar to QAYG?? that is my only thought, but of course you'd need to charge extra for that.
