I love your new twist on the D9P!! Your quilt will be great! I agree w/some others, be careful w/adding sashing as it may break-up the lines of your new design too much. If it were mine I would add some plain borders, maybe one in a light fabric from the quilt and one in a dark. Whatever you decide I'm sure the end result will be great!

Borrow away! There are a few drawbacks and if they wouldn't bother you, have fun! I've had to switch the direction of some of my seams in order to have proper matching and nesting.... but, some I could not switch because they were already sewn in one direction in the original 9 patch. It hasn't been a big problem, just be aware. Also, here and there are snips of fabric on the underside from the corners of pieces that were right on my diagonal cut line. I've been cutting some out... depending on how much bulk it's creating. All in all, it's been a fun project. I can't wait to finish it.

After starting to sew it together, I've decided against sashing. I like the way the triangles on the edges come together as a square. I don't want to lose that.

This quilt is absolutely beautiful. Can someone tell me what a D9P stands for? I can see the difference after it has been "sliced & diced" but wonder how to do original pattern also. It looks interesting and pretty easy to do. Thanks

D9P stands for Disappearing 9 Patch

I started by making a 9 patch of 8" squares. Random fabric selection. Cut them in both directions down the center. If you rearrange them at this point, you have a D9P. Do a search on here and you'll find lots of beautiful examples. I just went another step to get the look I was wanting.
