Default Date on your label

I make quilts with no particular person in mind, most of the time. I have a few on hand for emergencies such as a birthday or illness. I only label them when I give them away so my question is. What date do you put on your label? The year it was made, because I might have had it put away for a year or so, or the date you give it away?

I label when complete with my name and year only. If it's made for a particular occasion I'll put the month/year or the date of the occasion.

If it's for a special event, like a birth or wedding, i put that event date on it. If it's just a generic gift i put the year.

I hate to admit it, but I've fallen way behind on labeling my quilts. When I gift one, I do label it, and I put the year it was given rather than the year it was made.

I generally put the month and year, since the label goes on with the binding I just put that ( finished) date. If it was a long term work I at times put the started month, year; finished month, year. Sometime in the future someone may want to see that information - when I started it & how long I worked on it. I ( might) later add information/ date when it's given if that information is something pertinent.

A few years ago, I started labeling with my name, town, state and date. If it becomes a gift at a later date, I add a label "gifted to ___, for (whatever occasion) and the date gifted.

Date of completion and name in one area usually along the binding. Larger label if for a gift; name and date.
