A way to find cute appliques is to google children's coloring pages for the cat, bat and ball ect.

My other suggestion Is if you belong to a quilt guild or church sew group, Maybe you can call an emergency meeting and see if they can help you out by making a block and add the special bits and pieces. This is not a good idea if you want to do it all on your own though.

Respectfully disagreeing...I think it would be sad to rush such a special quilt. Especially with the grandfather's clothing.

Welcome to the QB...what a crunch of time to be able to finish such a keepsake quilt. I agree with the others, take your time and gift something else in the meantime.

Google free coloring book pages for the boy, mit, and cat. Take them to a photocopier to enlarge to the size you need.

I must agree with JennyPenny also. Enjoy the process, don't rush and the quilt will be beautiful and much appreciated.

Remember that saying "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." Don't feel rushed. They can wait, it will be worth waiting for.

Honestly, do people think we just throw fabric in a hopper, turn the crank a few times, and a finished quilt comes out the other end?? smh.

Make sure that the clothing is of similar weight. If anything is thin or stretchy, you can stabilize those pieces with iron-on interfacing. Trim away all the seams and see what size you can work with consistently. I like the idea of squares. Depending on the patterns, you may want to alternate the clothing squares with a solid where you can add the appliques. That way you have a bit more control over the appliques.
