Yes, 4 yrs. in high school and classes in textiles and clothing construction in college. Made Barbie doll clothes by hand--with lots of darts for those boobs, before 8th grade. Into quilting now and using up my stash. Sewing clothing is not economical anymore, imho.

Nope, my friend's mother was from Dover, TN and she taught me to make a skirt. After that, I was on my own. I was about 12 years old and have sewn for years and years now.

Yes. I knew a professional seamstress and learned from her.

Yep. Started in 7th grade, took it every year I could. But my learning was supplemented by my older sister who sewed beautifully. I make all my own clothes for many years, made my first wedding dress, made all my dds' clothes for a long time.

Now, I stick with quilting. DD has expressed interest in sewing and has a skirt cut out. Will it ever get done? Who knows? I could finish it in a heartbeat, but I think she really needs to get the experience!

Yes, took Home Ec in Jr. High - half the year was sewing and half the year was cooking. I dabbled off and on throughout the years and got back into sewing when my daughter was about 5 - decided to make her Halloween costume so I took a class through the local high school's adult ed. I made quilts on my own, nothing spectacular and got back in to sewing and quilting over the past year - I am an empty nester who moved and needed to get out of the house!

AHH yes, good old Home Ec class in Jr. High. Seems like eons ago!!! I learned to sew there and also from my mom.
I made alot of clothes for myself, then made clothes for my 3 girls.

It's funny, because I call sewing/embroidering/quilting my therapy!!

Learned to sew in 4-H and watching mom. Did make one apron in Jr High home ec, basically they taught enough that we could sew if had to. In high school was told to take bookkeeping instead of home ec as it would do me more good, fun thing was I ended up a Fashion Merchandising major in college. They didn't teach you to sew you needed to know how before the class, as they asumed you already knew.

No ...in fact, I hated the sewing portion of Home Ec..The teacher was nasty and awful. The teacher gave me a 'C' for the year and I spit nails. That's the only bad grade I've ever gotten. So later in life I decided to tackle the sewing machine on my own as a way of proving that she was wrong. When I won my first quilting ribbon I had to fight the urge to find her and send it to her. I've made clothes and bags--no big deal.

I made my first project in 6th grade at school. I had watched a neighbor sew from the age of 3. I had watched my Grandma sew for many years.
