That is what I pay for them here too Heidil. I've gotten a lot of good stuff from them. Some of it better than the retail stores. Sorry we are not in the same area tho. I was raised in Appomattox and have relatives in Lynchburg. Don't get up that way very often tho. Use to spend my summers in Madison Heights with an Aunt and Uncle. That was 50+ years ago...lol

Why not? as long as it is still good fabric, you could have a large selection to use.. and with fabric being so expensive..

old family clothes are grat to, keepsakes..

I used shirts from a friend for the quilt below. Her grandmother said the theme was nautical and I just could not find fabric that suited me. I was at my friends telling her my dilima and she opened a tub and pulled out the boat shirts. I added one of my husband's striped blue shirts and the backing and navy were regular fabrics.

I use sheets from the thrift stores all the time. Not only for backing but also for background fabric on the tops of my quilts. Plus I also buy blankets & mattress covers for batting. I find I can get them cheaper at SA rather than GW. I also get them at yard sales. I buy what I can afford & they all work great for me.

This is really pretty! And the fabric looks fresh and new!

Now in reply to the actual question...yes, I have made a quilt from used clothing. I made this one from shirts I bought at Good Will. I cannot think how old it is...probably 12-14 years, and has been on our bed almost every day since it was made. I wash it and put it back on and it is still holding up good! I had originally made it to be thrown in the car or truck to have just in case we needed it sometime.

Each week at our Good Will, everything with a certain color tag is on sale for half price....that makes shirts approx $1.75....I only get from size large on up, unless there is one that is super nice, super color. I have a whole bunch cut apart and ready to use in a quilt when I can get to them. Got a project in front of me for my daughter right now.

I have used thrift store fabrics but sadly of recent the fabrics seem to be all synthetic and not much in 100% cotton. Maybe I need to drive to the other side of my city. The exception might be mens shirts and bedding.

Besides cotton sheets, I like to use 100% cotton scrub tops. Depending on the style, they can yield quite a bit of usable fabric (especially scrub jackets.) And they come in a multitude of prints.

Last week the St.Vincent DePaul by me had all of their yellow tag clothing 5 for $5.00, and I got a bunch of scrub tops that I cut apart and am going to use for a dark/light HST scrappy that I'm planning to make (someday. )
