I don't bend hand-sewing needles but I sure do bend my straight pins. I use ball point pins, size 17 - 1/ 1/16". that are nickel plated steel. This is the size that works for me the best but I bend them beyond use and discard at least a couple of dozen in one day. Anyone have a solution?

I bend my needles even in a hoop. But I still use them until the bend is so bad that I can't

I bend all needles when I hand sew - even hemming a dress. It has something to do with the chemical makeup of my skin and the way I hold the needle. I bend rings and wear through them quickly too. But I won't give up my rings or my sewing. I have the rings built up every 10 years or so, and I buy new needles when I run low.

I glue a cotton ball into the cap of an old hair spray can, any container would do, and then put several drops of "Needle Oil" In the cotton ball. that is where I store the needles I am currently using to hand quilt. I usually thread about a dozen needles on the spool at a time and slip one off with the amount of thread I want at that time. After they are emptied I then stick them in the oiled cotton until next use. I find this very helpful.

I do that too, I've been told I hold the needle too tightly and pull up too hard. I've modified that and try to work more quickly and with a lighter hand, but the best solution was finding a kind of needle made with some platinum in them - 2 for $6. They just don't bend and last forever.

I use sixe 9 and yes, I do bend them, sometines even break them. i think I get too many stitches on the needle and then try to push it through.

I love John James No 8s too, they are the best needle to hand quilt with. But I can still manage to bend, break and blunt needles when I hand quilt because of the way I quilt. Ain't going to change my way now after 25 years though :)

I bent 2 but that's how I found out how hard it is to hand quilt with broadcloth as a backing. Hard lesson, poor hands.

I just bought one of those Spiral Eye side threading needle to bury threads when I machine quilt. I used it on 1 quilt and the dumb thing has a curve bent in it now. $6.00 for 1 needle...not happy!
