Do You Buy Fabric With/Without a Plan?
#84
I usually have a plan in mind for the fabric I buy. To me certain quilts need certain fabrics. If I bought everything I liked I'd have to add on to my house for it. Hmmmm....maybe that's not such a bad idea. LOL!!

I never have a quilt planned when I start shopping for new fabric.....it always leaves me in a pinch with not enough of at least one fabric. Then I spend days trying to figure out how to remedy the situation, all the while swearing this will never happen again....and of course it does!

The first place I go when entering any fabric store is the remnant bin. Often it is the ONLY place I go. These are, quite obviously, not planned purchases. If I need something specific I buy it. Otherwise I mostly just shop my stash. I am a scrap happy girl and thirty years of collecting a bit of this and a bit of that give me enough variety. I also pick up pieces here and there from all of you too. It works for me. The way I see it - every purchase is a splurge - and a present for me. I deserve it!

Something I read in another post got me wondering. How many of you actually have a project in mind when you buy fabric? I have to admit that I NEVER have a plan for new fabric. I buy it if I love it or if I think it would be a good blender with what I already have, and if it is on sale of course. I scan all my fabrics (at least that's my goal -- not quite there yet) into EQ6 and use it to match up fabrics for a particular project.

I have a limited budget so when I shop for fabric it is with a specific project in mind. I also only buy just enough to finish. I am usually crossing my fingers that my binding makes it all the way around. Because of buying just enough I have no stash.
