Oops, I was referring to toppers that I don't "quilt", just stitch in the ditch.

I just tried a pellon product - 809 Decor Band in christmas placemats. It is an iron on backing that has extra firmness & is not thick. It is machine washable but haven't washed the placemats yet so hopefully they will be ok. I like they way is feels and would be great on runners & table cloths.

I have done both with and without, but do prefer with batting.. However recently I acquired a large amount of wide felt like material and I am going to use that next time as I think it will work out the way I want.

I've been using Pellon (not the fusible type) it's about half the thickness of W&N. Been using this for several years for many projects and I love the stuff.... not too thick and not too thin. Actually I just replenished my supply as I always keep several yards on hand. Never know when a new brain storm will come along. I've never had any issues with it..... I just finished a 2 table toppers one with and one without. I just don't care for it without... Too flimsy for my taste.
